Seed Money TRAC4SERIAL
Seed money enables the preparation of project applications in line with the Action Plan for the European Union Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region (EUSBSR). The projects will be prepared to apply for funding from any EU, national or other funding sources. The preparation phase funded by the Programme seed money covers the planning of “main project” activities, partnership and budget as well as investigation of the thematic field and potential funding sources. Furthermore, it enables networking activities aiming at building strategic partnerships and exchange with responsible Policy Area Coordinators (PACs) and Horizontal Action Coordinators (HACs) of the EUSBSR Action Plan.
IWO together with the Lead Partner Technical University of Tallin, German Energy Agency (dena) and Jelgava Municipal Housing Management and Maintenance Company is working on the approach for the serial refurbishment and was successfully provided with the Seed Money for the TRAC4SERIAL Project. The main goal of TRAC 4 SERIAL is to reach higher energy efficient class using renewable energy and refurbishing with prefabricated elements.
The new retrofitting model should become affordable for everyone and be way more efficient than conventional or traditional refurbishment projects. The 2030 Framework for Energy and Climate sets targets for 2030 of at least a 40 % reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, a 27 % share for renewable energy and a 27 % increase in energy efficiency. Prefabricated standardised retrofits for refurbishment can rapidly increase the rate of refurbished buildings, which would reduce energy consumption significantly. The main project aims to increase energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy in the building sector. The main goal is to create a more energy-efficient and at the same time more affordable way of refurbishment, which allows to increase the amount of comprehensive refurbished buildings in the BSR. The EU Strategy for BSR sets a goal of 1.5 % savings on energy sale each year. Refurbishment of buildings is directly related to decreasing energy consumption. The project approach aims at not only decreasing energy consumption, but also integrating innovative systems inside the buildings so clean energy can be produced in/by the buildings ‘themselves’. These measures will increase the share of renewable energy in the region and reduce energy demand, which is also one of the goals of the EU Strategy.
TRAC 4 SERIAL will work on reaching higher energy classes with the same costs. It will not only have advantages on the building energy consumption, but also will create a new branch for business in the BSR. The expansion of the market of prefabricated modules is the only way to minimize the costs of production. TRAC 4 SERIAL will work on planning, management and implementation of production of prefabricated retrofits in the BSR region to reach the maximum benefit for sustainable development of new way of refurbishment.
