Sustainable housing industry in Ukraine
The energy-related condition of many residential buildings in Ukraine is in urgent need of improvement, but the modernisation of the housing stock faces social, financial and administrative difficulties. Above all, the participation of residents and civil society (i.e. non-state actors) in decision-making processes in the housing industry needs to be promoted and competence and capacity building developed.
The project “Sustainable Housing in Ukraine: Promoting Local Development and Strengthening the Role of Non-State Actors” aimed to strengthen cooperation between state and non-state actors in the cities of Lviv, Kherson, Zaporizhia and Odessa through dialogue formats. The focus was on the energy-efficient refurbishment of the housing stock in the respective cities. The project comprised targeted measures in the following areas:
- Improving framework conditions and financial instruments
- Developing local strategies for sustainable development
- Implementing the sustainability strategies developed
