Majas Draugs – Renovation Management in Latvia

The aim of the German-Latvian training project for building refurbishment managers “Majas Draugs” (Eng: Friend of the House) was to build up an expert network for the urgently needed increase of building refurbishment rates and quality improvement of refurbishments in Latvia. In the long term, more qualified experts will also be needed for delivering and implementing existing support programmes for building refurbishment. The training made use of the German renovation experience as well as earlier German-Latvian project experiences in the renovation of several residential buildings in Latvia. The results of the joint activities and refurbishment projects, e.g. in Jelgava, were further disseminated.

On the Latvian side, the project involved the Ministries of Environment and Economy
responsible for building renovation, the State Agency for Construction, Housing and Energy (BEMVA) and the Associations of Major Cities of Latvia (LLPA), Building Administrators (LNPAA) and Civil Engineers (LBS).
“Majas Draugs” was initiated by IWO, implemented in 2010 and 2011 and co-financed by the Federal Ministry for the Environment and KfW Bankengruppe.
