SOLar energy for multi-family buildings in Lithuania
Lithuania has one of the highest energy poverty rates in the European Union. The use of renewable energy has considerable potential, not only for the energy-efficient renovation and modernisation of buildings, but also for poverty reduction. Germany can contribute proven methods and valuable expertise in the field of energy-efficient building refurbishment using renewable energies. As part of the Lithuanian government’s ongoing restructuring programme, numerous buildings in the country are to be modernised in the near future. The project “SOL – Solar Energy for Multifamily Houses in Lithuania” started in September 2018 (closing February 2019) with the aim of contributing to the increased use of renewable energy in buildings in Lithuania. Against the background of this objective, a detailed analysis of the potential for the use of solar energy was first carried out. At the same time, targeted measures were taken within the project to network and involve all important stakeholders from the Lithuanian building and renewable energy sectors. By means of SOL, valuable insights could be gained into the areas in which solar energy (photovoltaics and solar thermal energy) can be used sensibly in Lithuanian residential buildings.
