SUNRISE – Prosumer Solar Energy

The SUNRISE project serves to disseminate and establish balcony power plants (or plug-in solar devices) in Eastern and South-Eastern European countries. The project partners are from Bulgaria, Germany, Lithuania and Northern Macedonia.

The aim of the project is to support local organisations in the expansion of solar energy projects through exchange of experience and knowledge transfer. The project will identify legal and technical obstacles on the national level of the above mentioned countries and will develop solutions for them. Homeowners and tenants are to be made aware of the general potential of solar energy with the help of balcony power plants with the aim of being able to encourage larger installations of PV systems in the medium term.

Within the framework of the project, about 30-40 pilot projects with balcony power plants will be initiated. Balcony power plants are neither widespread nor known in these countries. In the pilot projects, the mini solar power plants will be installed on the houses in such a way that they are visible from the street and the footpath, so that the citizens become aware of and interested in such technologies.

SUNRISE not only looks at the legal and technical requirements, but also examines social components such as the role of homeowner associations in the implementation of such projects in multiapartment buildings.
