Urb.Energy – Energy Efficiency & Urban Development (BSR)

The project “Urb.Energy – Energy Efficiency and Integrated Urban Development” , initiated jointly by IWO and DV e.V., was funded under the Interreg BSR Programme 2007-2013 and started in 2009. Urb.Energy built on the results of the successfully completed BEEN project, also coordinated by IWO. It had an extended focus on the elaboration of integrated urban development concepts and the combination of energy-efficient renovation of the residential building stock with the renewal of the heat supply infrastructure. In addition, innovative financing mechanisms were developed to enable the realisation of the measures. Urb.Energy prepared implementation-oriented technical documents and recommendations for action for the relevant players in the three thematic areas of “Integrated urban development”, “Energy efficiency in existing buildings and modernisation of the energy supply infrastructure” and “Innovative financing concepts”. In parallel, a total of six concrete example projects of integrated urban development planning were developed in the partner countries. The 15 project partners came from Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Germany and Belarus.
