Homes of the Future: Children and experts share their visions at EuroFest 2025 in Kazakhstan

On 1 June, Astana hosted EuroFest 2025, a public festival bringing together cultural and educational initiatives with the participation of European embassies, international organisations and projects supported by the European Union. For the second year in a row, the ENABLE project, implemented by IWO in Kazakhstan, was represented in the event.

One of the central parts of the festival programme was the children's asphalt drawing competition "My Home in the Future" organised by ENABLE. The competition was timed to coincide with Children's Day and aimed at developing environmental thinking, civic responsibility and creative imagination in children aged 5 to 12.

Young artists depicted how they see their dream home: green, safe, energy efficient and harmonious with the environment. The competition included several nominations, such as "The Greenest House", "Future Energy" and "Audience Choice". Each participant received a diploma and an incentive prize, while the winners received special awards.

In addition to the creative part, the ENABLE project presented expert sessions devoted to topical issues in the fields of housing policy, energy efficiency and interaction between citizens and local authorities. Changes in legislation, new tools for housing inspection, and approaches to capital repairs of apartment buildings were discussed.

Beside presenting the European experience to the citizens of Astana, EuroFest 2025 once again served as a valuable platform for exchanging opinions, promoting sustainable solutions and involving citizens, especially young people, in shaping the energy efficient future of their cities.
